Brookside Group Practice

Surgery consultations

All surgeries and clinics have an appointments system. Appointments are 10 minutes long. Please remember to make an appointment for each person who needs to be seen. When you book, you will be asked to state briefly the nature of your appointment to enable us to direct you to the most appropriate member of the health care team. For ‘Who should I see?’ click here.

Texting reminder service

We can text your mobile to remind you of pre-booked appointments and other services such as flu clinics. Click on the button on the home page.

Cancellations

If you cannot keep an appointment, please let us know at the latest before 8.00am on the day of the appointment so that we can give it to someone else. You can now cancel appointments online: see home page.

Types of surgery consultations:

Routine or non-urgent consultations: Appointments for the management of long-term conditions are bookable up to four weeks in advance. Asking for your usual doctor will give you better quality care.

On-the-day consultations: A limited number of appointments are available on the day. Your usual doctor may not be available for these appointments but should be seen for any follow-up needed.

Medically urgent appointments: If your problem cannot wait until next day, you will be booked into a medically urgent appointment at the end of routine surgeries. This may mean waiting.

Telephone consultations: These enable doctors and nurses to help you with certain queries or problems without your having to attend the surgery. Patient Services will take your name, a contact number and a brief message, and the doctor or nurse will then call you back. NB: Please ensure you are available to receive the call! Please be aware that we will not be able to return your call if the number given bars anonymised calls.

Evening appointments and Saturday mornings: Pre-bookable appointments are available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings and one Saturday morning per month. These take place at our main Brookside Surgery in Gipsy Lane, though GPs from all three sites are involved.

Home visits: If someone is too ill to attend the surgery, a home visit by a doctor or district nurse can be arranged. Please phone the surgery before 11.00am if you need a visit.

Chaperone

If you would like a chaperone present during your consultation, please advise the patient services team when booking your appointment or when checking in.
